BJP protests in Salem over caste-related issue in Periyar University exam

The Salem District Unity SC/ST wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest against Periyar University here on Monday.

Last week, in the MA History Department’s question paper, a controversial caste-related question was asked. Condemning this, BJP cadres staged a protest outside the Collectorate to demand action against the University. They also urged the Department of Higher Education to issue an apology on the matter. About 100 BJP cadres participated in the protest.

In Namakkal, around 100 BJP cadres staged a protest in front of the Collectorat. They later submitted a petition to collector Shreya P. Singh to register a case against the professors who wrote the question paper, under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

In Erode, BJP cadres staged a protest in Veerapanchetiram on Monday. They said the incident happened at a university established after Periyar which was fighting against caste atrocities in the state. They wanted a case to be filed against the university administration. Officials wanted a committee to investigate the matter and demanded strict action against those found guilty.
