Salem (Tamil Nadu) [India]July 15 (ANI): A question paper at Periyar University of Tamil Nadu has fueled controversy after a caste-related question was asked during the freshman exam held on Thursday.
However, Vice Chancellor Jagannathan ensured an investigation into the matter.
The caste related question – “Which is the lower caste that belongs to Tamil Nadu” with four caste options – was put to the first year (second semester) MA History students who were taking their exam in the subject ‘Movement freedom of Tamil Nadu: from 1800 to 1947’.

Speaking on the matter, the Vice Chancellor said that another university prepared the matter and he did not get any information regarding the document.
“The quizzes for the exams are not prepared by Periyar University. Other university and college teachers have prepared the quiz. Usually, to avoid quiz leakage, we don’t read the quiz before the review. I have not obtained any information regarding the controversial issue. We will investigate it,” the VC said.
“We are now requesting a report from the review supervisor who compiled the questionnaire. We are not planning to conduct a new review,” he added. (ANI)
